RSVP Report - June 2011
By Kala Meadows

The RSVP program will begin the second year of a three year grant on July 1, 2011. The Rapides Council on Aging, Inc. has sponsored the program for 36 years, giving our 349 active volunteers an opportunity to serve their community by providing opportunities for retired persons aged 55 and over to serve on a regular basis in a variety of settings.

RSVP offers older adults a meaningful life in retirement through volunteer service that is responsive to community needs.  RSVP provides opportunities for retired persons aged 55 and over to serve on a regular basis in a variety of settings. RSVP functions under the auspices of an established community service organization with funding, support and technical assistance provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service and the sponsor agency.

The Rapides Parish RSVP was established in 1975 under a grant to the Rapides Council on Aging, the sponsor.  RSVP serves in non-profit and governmental agencies and health care facilities.

An Advisory Council, appointed by the sponsor, assists the staff in development and operation of the program. The Council members represent senior volunteers, agencies served, and organizations serving older persons with special skills. The staff consists of a full time director and a part time office clerk.

We encourage all our volunteers to turn in hours worked so that they can be included in our reports to the Corporation which are due on June 30, 2011.
