RSVP Report

The extreme heat has prevented many of our volunteers from attending the sites where they provide services.  The drought-like conditions and above normal temperatures  present a hazard, especially for the very young and the elderly. As fall approaches with the promise of cooler temperatures, we hope that you will continue to report to your stations and provide the services that are so desperately needed.

Mrs. Vickie Schenk, State Specialist for the Corporation for National and Community Services recently monitored the Rapides Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. During her visit she was accompanied by Advisory Council members Steve Coco, Julia and Patsy Peterman and Wiley Heard on a tour of St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store. There, she met Mrs. Helen Brittain, volunteer coordinator for the station and several volunteers including Dot McWhorter, Susie Medlin, Mabel Vead and Sister Hannah. Mrs. Brittain gave a brief history of the organization and answered questions about the purpose of the thrift store. This personal contact with the site manager and volunteers gave Mrs. Schenk a better understanding of how services are provided by our stations.

We extend a warm welcome to our newest volunteers. They are Tressie Hess and Carolyn Rogers who serve at Rapides Regional Medical Center.
