HONOR THE ELDERLY DAY OBSERVED Homebound meal program clients served by Rapides council received a box of popcorn balls to commemorate “Honor The Elderly Day” on May 25. The Food Bank of Central Louisiana joined with the Council to provide the delivery of the special treat to more than 500 elderly clients. The Louisiana Legislature proclaimed that “Honor The Elderly “ would be celebrated annually to recognize the elderly for their contribution to Louisiana. SIEMENS ENERGY CORPORATION DONATES FUNDS TO CLECO FAN DRIVE Siemens Energy Corporation donated $750 to Rapides Council On Aging to purchase fans for Cleco’s Fan Drive. Cleco employees have conducted fundraisers and collecting donated fans for Cleco’s Tenth Annual Fan Drive. The fan drive began on April 5 and ended May 27. Fans will be distributed by Councils On Aging in Cleco’s service areas in June as soon as they are available... Call the Rapides Council at 445-7985 to place your name on the list for a fan. ELDERLY CARE DIRECTORY PUBLISHED AND ON LINE Rapides Council On Aging was pleased to offer the first edition of Elderly Care Directory in 1998. Updated and revised editions are published every two years and Committee to increasing the organized capacity of people to care for one another, the Council provided the directory as a public service to senior citizens and social service professional in Rapides parish. The Elderly Care Directory will be updated in the coming months and will be available both on line at the Council’s website www.rapidescouncilonaging.org and for the first time will be published in The Senior News over several months. The information will be organized into service categories and as many categories as space permits will be published each month beginning in July, 2010. All services agencies are invited to submit their information to bdekrcoa@AOL.com to be reviewed for inclusion in the Directory. Call the Council at 445-7985 for more information.
