An estimated three million people were affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti.
As aid from around the world poured into the region, we began to see the enormity of the devastation suffered by the people in this, one of the poorest countries in the world.
Medical teams were assembled to alleviate the suffering of the wounded and prevent the
spread of disease. Volunteers responded to the call for help to provide aid and support in distributing food, water, shelter and basic needs To date, over 150,000 Haitians have lost their lives and the toll will undoubtedly rise as rescue efforts focus on a search of the debris caused by this horrific tragedy. In the days following the earthquake, two former presidents joined forces in an effort to raise funds and support from the American people .The response has been tremendous and millions of dollars have been raised to provide relief to the survivors of this disaster.
Here in Central Louisiana, 631 RSVP volunteers demonstrate this same level of care and concern for those who need a helping hand in our community. These dedicated men are women give selflessly their time, skills, and knowledge gained, in part, through their
own personal life experiences and a desire to share them with their neighbors. We appreciate these volunteers and their efforts to improve lives here at home.
Thanks for a job well done!
Welcome to our newest volunteer, Ona Wilson at St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store.
